2010 WHAT’S UP

Hello 2010, I greeted this new year surrounded by people I love, in good health,  still working at a job I love for 31 years and learning and growing in my craft. None of which is new, and for that I am graciously  grateful. In 2010 I will focus more on the simply things and the joy it brings.

More time listening to my favorite musical artist,
More time doing absolutely nothing,
Sitting in my Springtime  garden,
Finding natures wonders in my Winter garden,
Enrolling my granddaughter in the creative girl craft club,
Creating a jewelry piece at the spur of a moment,
Just looking at my beads.

This past Sunday after dinner I took a look at some beads I had on my work table. It was quite a few beads. Lot’s of shapes and colors. I spent about 30 minutes looking through them then I went to bead. The next day my 14 year old son(who at times will accompany me to expos or craft shows)said “Ma did you make something new”? The answer was no. Then I had an ah ha moment and asked my son to pick 3 beads from my desk and I would make something from those beads. This picture is the end result. My son thought the necklace was “off the hook”. He tells me that’s a good thing.

What’s MY STYLE

Today I took some “me” time, sat in my yard enjoying the flowers and the cool breeze. It’s been a hot, muggy, humid New York afternoon. I closed my eyes and started to think what new pieces I should add to my jewelry inventory. So many colors, shapes, sizes, stones, metals, mediums, in my world of beads and metals. I opened my eyes and said to myself “Oh hell, this is not relaxing”,Why can’t I make a decision,so much going on in my head, so much to choose from, feeling hurried, I must be in a New York State Of Mind. I got up went inside, had a cold drink, took a look at my work area with all the many beads and other related items and went back outside to my garden and sat down. I said to myself, what is it I like?, what makes me feel comfortable?, what do I feel passionate about?. Am I about bold and funky, simple and elegant, Victorian or classic, modern and slick. Being true to myself, I had to admit I LIKE THEM ALL. I also realized I haven’t found a color I truly dislike. I do admit I am drawn to blues and earth tones, but give me the right combination of colors, textures and sizes, that works for me. All the colors of the rainbow are a gift from God. If all the elements of my work compliment each other, the piece is well constructed with quality materials, and it’s made with love and passion—–THAT’S MY STYLE—–

It’s been a very hectic and chaotic few months for me. A sick husband has kept me extremely busy. God willing he’s on the mend now and I can start refocusing on my jewelry making. The rare times I had a free moment I would glance at my beads and a couple of ideas would flash across my mind. I did make time to become a member of another venue for handmade items. You can also find my work at www.daring.1000markets.com

I realize that whatever else is going on, beading is always in the back of my mind.

In the big city where I live it’s been cold, snowing, miserable weather lately. This winter we’ve had more snow then   previous years. I just hate cold snowy weather. This weekend we will be putting the clock ahead one hour and the weather will be almost spring-like. Spring is definitely in the air, my mind is racing, I’m seeing many design ideas in my head for my jewelry. The ideas are popping up so quickly. I’ve pulled out my beads, I’m taking inventory, I’m thinking Spring colors, graduations, proms, weddings. OH HAPPY DAY.

Mix And Match

As we know beads are made out of various materials(glass, wood, metal, stone, paper, shell, pearl, plastic, acrylic, fibers and perhaps some I’ve missed). And now resin beads are popular. I find them interesting when creating my handmade beaded jewelry. They come in geometric shapes, many have that see through effect, their durable and can make interesting and dramatic statements when paired with other bead making materials.Click on image to enlarge.
