Wondering what to do with your
beaded anklets?
An anklet, ankle chain, or ankle bracelet, is an ornament worn around the ankle. Anklets historically have been worn for centuries by unmarried women in India, though in the United States both casual and more formal anklets became fashionable in the late twentieth century. While in western popular culture both younger men and women may wear casual leather anklets, they are more popular among women, and more formal anklets (silver, gold, beads) are almost exclusively confined to women’s fashion.
Anklets can be made of silver, gold, and other less precious metals as well as leather, plastic, nylon and other such materials. In the western world anklets or ankle chains are mainly worn by younger females, but some older women also wear them.
Metal anklets are of two types - flexible and inflexible. The flexible ones, often called pajeb or jhanjhar in India, are made by tying links in a chain. Subsequently, sonorous bells can be attached to the chain, so that the wearer can make pleasing sounds while walking. Inflexible ones are usually created by giving shape to a flat metal sheet.
Most anklets seem to be worn on the right ankle. Perhaps this is due to more people being right-handed. Although in eastern cultures, anklets are worn on both ankles.

Necklaces have been worn throughout history, by both men and women, and have been used as marks of distinction in many cultures, including the ancient Hebrew culture. Necklaces, handsome and richly ornamented, were a principal part of the dress, both of men and women, among the ancient Egyptians; and some idea of the number of jewels they wore (remarks Sir G. Wilkinson) may be formed from those borrowed by the Israelites at the time of the Exodus, and by the paintings of Thebes. They consisted of gold or of beads, of various qualities and shapes, disposed according to fancy and enriched with jewels.
Necklaces of gold thickly set with gems were worn by the Greeks and Romans of both sexes. There was a famous necklace of the most costly precious stones upon the statue of Vesta in Rome, to whose vengeance Zosimus attributes the tragic end of Serena, Stilicho’s widow, who had despoiled her of it. By the command of Honorius she was strangled.
The necklace taken from the neck of the Hindoo King Jaipal, captured by Mahmud (A.D. 1001) was composed of large pearls, rubies, etc., and was valued at two hundred thousand dinars, or a good deal more than a hundred thousand pounds.
Homer mentions a necklace curiously wrought of gold interwined with amber, which Eurymachus presented to Penelope.
So the season of Love is upon us. The stores are filled with pink and red. Aisles filled with heart shaped boxes of chocolates and the price of flowers is going to shoot sky high in the next couple of weeks.
So what are you going to give your special someone. Perfume is a no-no, it can go wrong in so many ways. Chocolates are so last minute, although they do add to the waistline, they don’t say I planned on this day, more like I thought of you at the last minute. Flowers are pretty but in the trash next week and no one really likes throwing fifty dollars in the garbage.
- Think about something that will be lasting. Think about jewelry, a pretty necklace or bracelet.
- If jewelry isn’t there thing maybe a charming bookmark wrapped in a book of love poems.
- Reading isn’t their passion but they love a nice bottle of wine. Make sure to wrap it in a velvet bag and include some sparkling wine charms.
Whatever you give your love on the day of hearts and flowers make sure she knows you were inspired by cupid himself.
The love and appreciation of jewelry knows no bounds. Everybody loves jewelry, not everyone can afford all the jewelry that they love-just like most art lovers could never afford an original piece of art. The lure and sparkle and design of great jewelry is an art.
Jewelry comes in so many forms and is appreciated in so many ways, from the ancient works in museums, to heirloom jewelry you admire in grandmother’s old cedar box, to the mall’s boutiques, corner jewelry stores, and Claire’s or Afterthoughts.
I just love jewelry in all forms. Your taste may be more particular but wither you love a good chunky diamond, an elegantly designed Celtic weave or a artistically put together assemble you have to admit jewelry is the icing on the cake.
Looking for a little sparkle to wear around your neck that won’t break the bank. Swarovski crystal jewelry will do the trick. They will add to your glam look and make you look even more dressy for your eveing out on the town.
Crystal jewelry looks especially sweet with V-neck, and scoop neck dresses.
If you are going for more strapless number or something with a more revealing neckline you may want to concider a choker to help even out the attention of your neckline.
Avoid big or chunky jewelry if your assemble is more delicate. Keep the two in sync by choicing a simple chain, or delicate necklace with a few small crystals on it.
Necklaces are a gorgeous way to accessorize your neck and your outfit. From the beginning of womankind (and mankind too) we have been adorning our necks with amulets of protection, symbols of our faith, to show cultural, status symbols, and for a beautiful accessory.
The individual styles of necklaces are limitless. Made from gold, silver, beads, gems, stones, pearls, and even noodles and yarn made with love from our preschoolers. Necklaces vary in length as much as style; from chokers, princess necklaces, opera necklaces, and those special one we keep close to our breast.
Make sure you pick the fashion accessory that best suites your style. Whatever precious materials or gorgeous style you pick is sure to impress.
I just love the marriage of silver and turquoise. The shimmer and color really set each other off and the way they look on are great. I’m not the only one who has found a love the stone. The Aztecs used it centuries ago, the Pharaoh’s loved it, and so did the French in ancient and modern times.
It is said that turquoise beads are a healing stone for your mind and body. Just the way they look makes me feel good. Besides blue is the trend this year. Even if it wasn’t turquoise is a classic gem that has been used in jewelry for thousands of years.
Beaded Jewelry is a timeless tradition. No one is quite sure when exactly man and woman first started adorning themselves with beads but it’s been around for centuries if not longer. I mean look at Betty and Wilma, even in the Stone Age woman were making their necks sparkle with a stand of beads.
Beaded jewelry comes in many forms and types and can be worn for so many occasions. That coral necklace at the beach bringing out your tan, the pearl necklace as mother of the bride, and the shimmer of crystals at the office party are all great examples of how versatile beaded jewelry is.
