Have you ever felt “Stuck in a rut” ? Feeling bored with the same basic style, design or colors. Feeling the need to step out of the box, to leave your comfort zone. It’s time to jump start your creative juices. Here’s what I find helpful. When working on a new jewelry piece, I’ll collect my beads and start working on the design. A quarter of the way I’ll stop, stand back take another look or maybe take a break. Sometimes when I pick up the piece again I have a different vision of the design and I incorporate it into the original design. Many times it’s a go,other times the piece doesn’t click for me. But now my brain is racing with ideas and I will ultimately produce two or three new pieces of jewelry. Other times I’m engaged in an activity unrelated to jewelry design and a idea pops into my head. Don’t be afraid to put your idea on paper. You don’t have to be an artist to jot down your idea while it’s fresh in your head. I also will go jewelry shopping. You don’t have to buy anything, but you get to see what’s current in the stores. I pay attention to what people in different age brackets are wearing and what’s hot in the fashion and jewelry magazines. So with this all said and done, and my love of creative design I’m never truly stuck.
The weatherman said thunderstorms today, downpour heavy at times late afternoon. Perfect opportunity to make some plans, since I”ll be sidelined by the rain later this afternoon anyway. I’ll run a few errands, return home and attend to a few home issues(one or two), the ones I can accomplish quickly. Then sit back, look through my fashion magazines , my beading files which contain my ideas on projects I have in mind to create. Then I’ll sort through my beads, putting aside the beads I think feel right or coordinate with my project ideas, my mood,my surroundings,the weather,the latest fashions. By this time it should be raining. I love to be home listening to a downpour. It seems to mellow me. SO, if I don’t fall asleep I’ll start beading . Usually, now I’m on a roll, here comes two or three projects. Guess what? today is Monday. So you see Rainy Days and Mondays don’t always get you down. We are so accustom to our silver and gold jewelry. I forgot copper also makes a statement when it’s used in jewelry. Copper comes in so many hues. Recently I took out my copper wire and created a few new pieces. I’m also getting request for more copper jewelry. A few people told me they like to wear copper in the Spring and Summer. There is no shortage of color for the Spring/Summer season of 2008. The trend for blue has been slowly growing and this season we can say Blue is Back and with a vengeance. Manufacturers are working to produce a wide range of attractive tones for the 2008 Spring/Summer season. Royal blue will be there show casing it’s brilliance on jackets and parkas. Of course denim is always fashionable. If blue is not your favorite hue, a blue chambray shirt is a must have for Spring Summer 2008.
Spring 2008 continues last autumn’s theme of lilac, magenta and purple puce. The lemon yellow tones are mingling too with mustard, olive and khaki greens. Think of the mixed citrus skin on a lemon that veers toward lime. This is the yellow green color palette.
Tribal fabrics are often brown based, but with jolts of added color for bands and straps. Creamy coffee, taupe, silver gray and mole mixtures work well in tribal mixes especially when teamed with bold trims of red or yellow, bringing sunny heat to the latest 2008 print fabric designs.
