Jewelry must not only look great but should make you feel better(physically and emotionally)when you wear it. Today Magnet jewelry claims to alleviate several ailments, who knows. I strongly believe your jewelry should lift your spirits,at least a little or its not worth wearing. It should also do something positive for your outfit. Whether it’s the vibrant color of the piece or a unique design. The piece could be bold, classic or simply elegant, it should make a statement. This is what catches my eye.

Coral and Turquoise necklaceToday was dark , dreary and rainy. I decided it was a blue day, I was in a B mood so I decided to bead. I made a blue handmade beaded necklace with one of my favorite beads TURQUOISE. But not to be too blue I added a touch of spice with some coral.

What is an Anklet?

Wondering what to do with your Beaded Ankletsbeaded anklets?

An anklet, ankle chain, or ankle bracelet, is an ornament worn around the ankle. Anklets historically have been worn for centuries by unmarried women in India, though in the United States both casual and more formal anklets became fashionable in the late twentieth century. While in western popular culture both younger men and women may wear casual leather anklets, they are more popular among women, and more formal anklets (silver, gold, beads) are almost exclusively confined to women’s fashion.

Anklets can be made of silver, gold, and other less precious metals as well as leather, plastic, nylon and other such materials. In the western world anklets or ankle chains are mainly worn by younger females, but some older women also wear them.

Metal anklets are of two types - flexible and inflexible. The flexible ones, often called pajeb or jhanjhar in India, are made by tying links in a chain. Subsequently, sonorous bells can be attached to the chain, so that the wearer can make pleasing sounds while walking. Inflexible ones are usually created by giving shape to a flat metal sheet.

Most anklets seem to be worn on the right ankle. Perhaps this is due to more people being right-handed. Although in eastern cultures, anklets are worn on both ankles.

Beaded NecklaceCheck out this beaded necklace collection, and see the history below!

Necklaces have been worn throughout history, by both men and women, and have been used as marks of distinction in many cultures, including the ancient Hebrew culture. Necklaces, handsome and richly ornamented, were a principal part of the dress, both of men and women, among the ancient Egyptians; and some idea of the number of jewels they wore (remarks Sir G. Wilkinson) may be formed from those borrowed by the Israelites at the time of the Exodus, and by the paintings of Thebes. They consisted of gold or of beads, of various qualities and shapes, disposed according to fancy and enriched with jewels.

Necklaces of gold thickly set with gems were worn by the Greeks and Romans of both sexes. There was a famous necklace of the most costly precious stones upon the statue of Vesta in Rome, to whose vengeance Zosimus attributes the tragic end of Serena, Stilicho’s widow, who had despoiled her of it. By the command of Honorius she was strangled.

The necklace taken from the neck of the Hindoo King Jaipal, captured by Mahmud (A.D. 1001) was composed of large pearls, rubies, etc., and was valued at two hundred thousand dinars, or a good deal more than a hundred thousand pounds.
Homer mentions a necklace curiously wrought of gold interwined with amber, which Eurymachus presented to Penelope.

Jewelry in history.

Victorian JewelryHistorically speaking jewelry has had a number of uses throughout its storied history.  With examples of jewelry dating back at least 100,000 years we know that jewelry has been a human tradtition for millenia.  Originally, it is suspected, jewelry was developed to display or store wealth in a way that would demonstrate the owner’s high position in society.  As the years passed the diamond fast became the lasting symbol of the marriage pact probably for its own durability and strength.

Most modern jewelry is almost exclusively used for adornment purposes, serving as a tasteful accent to an already existing beauty.  Although many more celebratory and colorful displays still enjoy popularity in some cultures, the majority of the western world seems to enjoy something that doesn’t steal the show.  Next time you’re shopping for handmade jewelry pay special attention to the details  and see if you can find the influence or particular cultural traits at work.

WineIf you’ve ever been to a wine tasting or a party you know that people are always trying to pretty up their wine.  They put it in giant fancy crystal glasses, goblets and “snifters.”  At the end of the day they claim the aromas and flavors of wine are deeply affected by the shape and quality of its container.  Traditionally people enjoy adornments to their food, it makes it more attractive and as visual being humans have a true appreciation for visual beauty.  As a result a very creative way to further embellish the beauty of food and libations has become quite popular.

If you haven’t already, take a look at handmade wine charms.  They’re particularly striking when used on wine glasses as the varied wine charm colors can affect the way the color of the wine hits your eyes.  They can be the perfect glint or they can magnify the natural beauty of an already lush and luminous glass.  These handmade beaded wine charms in particular set themselves apart as a unique way to increase the enjoyment of wine by creatively magnifying its natural beauty.

So the season of Love is upon us. The stores are filled with pink and red. Aisles filled with heart shaped boxes of chocolates and the price of flowers is going to shoot sky high in the next couple of weeks.

So what are you going to give your special someone. Perfume is a no-no, it can go wrong in so many ways. Chocolates are so last minute, although they do add to the waistline, they don’t say I planned on this day, more like I thought of you at the last minute. Flowers are pretty but in the trash next week and no one really likes throwing fifty dollars in the garbage.

  • Think about something that will be lasting. Think about jewelry, a pretty necklace or bracelet.
  • If jewelry isn’t there thing maybe a charming bookmark wrapped in a book of love poems.  Read the rest of this entry »
